Merry Christmas!

Just want to wish everyone a very merry and peaceful Christmas. It's snowing at midnight in my neck of the woods in Tennessee. A white Christmas!

Want to also share this oldie but goodie with you. Remember this?

Merry Christmas!
God bless us, every one!

Brilliant Lenses - I can see clearly now! {giveaway}

I'm trying something new. I got a countertop toaster oven that has a rotisserie function, so I bought a nice looking pork tenderloin and I'm experimenting with the rotisserie.

For the first time.

Wish me luck. :)

Anyway, I had to get the little instruction booklet out that came with the cooker to make sure I was doing everything correctly and...I couldn't read the fine print.

I wear contact lenses because my vision without them is horrendous. But I can see up close and read just fine without them. But I need the contacts for long range vision, like driving. But then I have to wear reading glasses to read when my contacts are in.

So I have this marvelous pair of reading glasses I got from Reading Glasses Online and I whipped them on to read the instruction booklet. Hmmm...everything was still a little foggy.

I took off the reading glasses and could see a heavy-ish layer of smudge and dust and who-knows-what-all on the lenses. So I promptly wiped them on my shirttail.

Okay, pop quiz time---

What's wrong with this picture?

Are you guilty of wiping your glasses on your shirt too? Or table napkin or paper towel or whatever is handy? Yeah, I thought so.

Okay, time's up on the pop quiz. The answer is: Instead of cleaning my reading glasses with my shirt, I should have used Brilliant Lenses cleaner with optical microfiber cloth.
There. I cheated on the quiz, because really, how could you have known that? And how could I have been so pre-occupied as to forget about using it?

My bad. But taking another look at my glasses lenses, they still aren't clear, even after wiping them with my shirttail. Sometimes you just smudge the smudge, know what I mean?

So I whipped out the Brilliant Lenses cleaner and cloth and voila! Sparkling clear glasses again! In an instant! And the best part is they will stay that way for a good long while until I need to clean them again.

The secret is something the manufacturer calls SR-8 that adds an invisible protective barrier to lenses to resist scratches, soiling, and water marks. It can be used on ALL types of lenses.

* SR-8 is a Polimer Additive that reduces surface tension making cleaning easier each time it is used
* SR-8 Coats the lens leaving a protective barrier
* SR-8 Improves scratch resistance
* SR-8 Will not dry out protective coatings
* Cleans Glass & Plastic Lenses
* No Alcohol or Ammonia
* Added scratch resistance with SR-8
* Comes with a Micro Fiber Cleaning Pad
* Also works on Phones, Monitors, and MP3 players!
Okay, I haven't tried it on my cell phone yet, but I will when I can remember it. Monitors? Oh yeah. Especially gadgets like an iPad or iPod Touch that you put your fingers all over all the time. And MP3 players too. Video will look a lot better when the screen is crystal clear.

Black Diamond carries a wide range of cleaners and Brilliant Lenses is just one of them. The price can't be beat. You can order the single kit online here for only $4.99 with $1 shipping! You'd pay that for any bargain brand of glasses cleaner at a discount store, right? So this is truly a no-brainer for anyone who wears glasses or wants to keep plastic and glass surfaces clean and clear. And what a great stocking stuffer!

Now you can try Brilliant Lenses yourself for free! Black Diamond is sponsoring a giveaway for one lucky Shady Lady reader! You'll get the Brilliant Lenses spray cleaner bottle and an optical microfiber cloth, all in a convenient little bag for safekeeping and storage.

Kroger and Chex Mix make the season tastier! {giveaway}

Are you a fan of Chex Mix? Then you're in luck! Because from now through Dec. 25th, Kroger has Chex cereal at the lowest prices of the year! And if you check around a little online, you might even find a coupon or two that will make the prices even better!

Chex Mix is a staple for all our get-togethers. I prepared and carried some to an informal get-together just the other night, and would you believe there were FOUR other guests who brought Chex Mix too? Not to mention the hostess also provided Chex Mix. Everyone loves Chex Mix!

And so many delicious ways to prepare it! I'm a fan of the original Chex Mix, but I like to add different ingredients now and then just to spice things up. Like freshly cracked black pepper. Or rough sea salt. Or hot pepper flakes. How about teriyaki sauce instead of Worchestershire? Soy sauce works great too, but be sure to tone down any added salt. Throw in some chopped pecans for a real tastebud pleaser.

If your preference is for sweet stuff, there are countless recipes for that as well. Try Chex Ginger-Honey Crunch or Chex Brittle.

Luckily there are no gluten problems in my household, so Wheat Chex is always in the Mix too. But if you are avoiding gluten, you'll be happy to know that Corn Chex and Rice Chex are both gluten-free.

Check out the many recipes here for lots of ideas on creating your own Chex Mix for the holidays... and for any time you want a delicious, nutritious snack!
You'll be able to try these recipes at home if you are the winner of my giveaway! Kroger, Chex, and MyBlogSpark have teamed up for this promotion and I have a prize package for one lucky Shady Lady reader that includes two samples of Chex cereal and a $25 gift card valid at the Kroger Family of Stores.

Holiday glamour courtesy of Allura Marie! {giveaway}

One thing I love about the holidays - besides the great food, great drinks, great company - is the chance to get all dressed up. I mean, honestly, unless you've got a hot date - and I mean a really hot date - or you're going to a wedding or something like that, who gets all dolled up except for the holidays?

But for Christmas parties and New Year parties, it's almost de rigueur to pull out your glitziest, glitteriest, most glamourous clothes and jewelry. You know, all those things you hang on to for years, hoping you'll get the chance to wear them at least once. Well, the holidays are here and it's time to break out the goodies!

My jewelry box has lots of stuff that I never wear. I couldn't resist it in the store, or it was a gift that I cherish, or I keep hoping Keanu Reeves will ask me to accompany him to the Academy Awards show and I'll need those showstoppers one day. (hey, a girl can dream!)

But the truth is I have pieces that I'll probably never wear again, simply because I've either outgrown the style or I no longer have that gorgeous sweater or little black dress that the jewelry set went so well with.

But now here it is the holidays once again, and once again I'm contemplating what to wear to the big bash. So I did a little shopping online to find the perfect new little black dress and some jewelry to complement it.
Let me tell you about a website I found for some really beautiful glamourous jewelry...that is affordable! It's called Allura Marie Couture Jewelry Boutique and you can visit the site here.

Right off the bat I knew I had found a great new resource for affordable costume jewelry! I couldn't believe the great selection. And the prices!! Even though my budget is always strained to the limit around this time of the year, I still like to "pamper" myself with a few Christmas gifts From Me To Me. Allura Marie has something for everyone, and there are several pieces I'd love to add to my collection!

When I contacted them about the possibility of a review, they said yes! Woo-hoo! Jodanna (isn't that a lovely name? unique too!) was kind enough to let me choose a bracelet to review. She also offered a $25 gift certificate to Allura Marie for one of my readers. But more on that in a minute...because first I want to show you the beautiful pieces I received.
When I first opened the package, I saw these lovely black gift boxes with stretchy silver bow bands. Boxes? What the heck? I thought I was getting this bracelet to review. Here it is on their website, by the way -
Stunning bracelet made out of 8mm top-drilled Jet color Swarovski crystal bicone beads interlinked and separated by sterling silver rocco square beads. Bracelet is approximately 7.5 inches in total length and can be adjusted if necessary. $42.50 (out of stock)
Don't you just love it?! And look at the unique clasp... it's shaped like a freeform heart. Never seen anything quite like it before.

So anyway that's what I was expecting. But when I opened the boxes, here's what I saw...
Jodanna at Allura Marie sent me not only the Jet Cartesian bracelet but also the matching earrings!!
Stunning earrings made out of 8mm top-drilled Jet colored Swarovski crystal bicone beads interlinked and separated by sterling silver rocco square beads. Earrings hang approximately 1.25 inches from the base of .925 sterling silver ear wires. $18.50 (out of stock)

Wow!! These pieces are simply gorgeous! Photos don't do them justice. You really have to see them with your own eyes to appreciate them.

But I took a few photos anyway, just to give you an idea -

I've always loved jet jewelry. There's something so glamourous and mysterious about it. It's what I think a Shady Lady would wear. :) The black faceted crystal beads are so shiny, they really reflect everything, even the red background. And yes, that's real sterling silver for the spacer beads and findings, even though it may seem a bit rough in my photos (again because they are so shiny they reflect everything).
A slightly clearer picture so you can see more of the detail.
What I love about this bracelet and earrings - aside of course from the gorgeous color and shine and design - is that the bicone beads swivel, so you can wear the bracelet flat against your skin (as above) or you can "twist" them a bit for more of an edgy look. I couldn't stop playing with the beads when it was on my wrist. :)
The sterling silver spacer beads are just as beautiful. They have a lot of detail and make a very nice complement to the black beads. This is definitely a cocktail set for those times when you want to stand out from the crowd and be recognized for your own particular fashion sense and style.

I can't wait to wear these this holiday season! Should I save them for New Year's Eve? What do you think?

And what do you think of the other products at Allura Marie? What would you choose for your glitzy glamourous shindig this season? I'd really love to know! My tastes run to the unique, and as you can see I love the combination of black and silver. But I'd love to know what you love!

Remember I mentioned earlier about a $25 gift certificate to Allura Marie? Wowie-zowie! One lucky Shady Lady reader will be able to select a $25 or under item for free or will get a very nice discount toward a larger purchase! It's up to you!

Wishing you a Merry *handmade* Christmas! {giveaway}

Girls in white dresses with pink satin sashes...
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes...
Silver-white winters that melt into springs...
Handmade Christmas ornaments and decorative things...

These are a few of my favorite things!
Linda Lewis at Creative Artworks! sent me a lovely collection of handmade holiday things! Linda is a true artist and takes great joy in personalizing and "upgrading" some everyday items. I was dazzled and delighted as I pulled each beautiful object out of the box she sent me. Who wouldn't be flattered to find a personalized ornament with their name on it!
And on the back, the year -
A true keepsake to be cherished!
I also love this mosaic stocking ornament! Or you could use it as a cool gift tag!
And I can't wait to send my favorite person this wonderful handmade greeting card!
Linda turned this simple bar of Jergens soap into something special by handpainting a Christmas tree on it. What a nice accent for the guest bathroom! Would also make great stocking stuffers, nice little thank-you gifts, and terrific hostess gifts!
And I just love love love this hand-decorated journal!
Linda painted both sides of the sturdy cover with midnight blue and gold paint, and added a wooden tree, which is also handpainted and decorated. Love it!!
Also love the journal itself. It is spiral-bound with lined blank pages, separated every so often with manilla-stock pockets for notes, cards, etc. This would be great for Christmas card addresses or gift lists, with plenty of room for notes about hobbies, sizes, etc.

If you love all these things like I do, then your eyes will bug out when you see the plethora of goodies available from Linda's website called Creative Artworks! Linda can do it all, and she does it beautifully. If you love giving (and getting!) handmade things, then I strongly recommend checking out Creative Artworks! Not only the art of Linda Lewis but several other artists as well. There's definitely something for everyone!

Linda sent me an email just as I was writing this post to tell me about some new items she's just listed. Check out these gorgeous gourd ornaments!
Creative Artworks! isn't just a spotlight for Linda's work. She also features the work of several other artists as well. Check out her blog here. If you are an artist interested in listing your items with Linda, you can contact her at linda@creativeartworks.cc

My sister and I were talking the other day, and the subject of handmade or hand-decorated gifts and decorations came up. She feels the same way I do: Handmade things are cherished for the very fact that they are handmade. It's a crying shame but a simple truth that not everyone appreciates handmade. Some people look at handmade things and think "somebody made that!" as in, it didn't come mass-manufactured from a store so it can't possibly be worth anything!

My sister and I, on the other hand, look at handmade things and think "somebody made that!" as in, it didn't come mass-manufactured from a store so it is priceless!

Which group do you fall into?

I hope it's the latter, because Linda Lewis is offering one of my lucky readers some handmade Christmas keepsakes! Woo-hoo! Another great giveaway!!

Here's what you could win:
the white birdhouse ornament on the left
this beautiful handmade greeting card
and this handpainted bar of soap
Your holiday will be merry and bright with these handmade lovelies! Thank you, Linda, for your generosity toward my readers!

NOTE: Linda just let me know that she posted about me on her blog. Wow!! Linda, thank you so much for your kind words! I don't deserve such accolades. What I do is nothing special. I just love finding new products and telling my blog readers about them, because I believe that most people would rather hear from a "real person" about a product than just some "advertising hype". :)

If you have something you want reviewed, just email me at tnshadylady at gmail.com and I'll be happy to discuss it with you. I also enjoy hosting giveaways, because as Linda stated this gets my visitors more interested and they are more likely to engage with your website. So don't be shy... Contact me and we'll go from there. I must add, however, that I do not accept all requests. I have to honestly believe in a product before I will promote it on my blog. My readers expect nothing but honesty from me, and that's what I give them.

Holiday coffee cheer from Community Coffee! {giveaway}

There's almost nothing I like better than a delicious cup of coffee in the morning. The only thing better? Flavored coffee!

Are you a fan of flavored coffee? Then you're gonna love what I have for you from Community Coffee! They are giving one of my readers a Louisiana Holiday Blends Gift Set! More on that later...

Community Coffee is a legend in the coffee business. They have been around for a long time.
For four generations, the Saurage family of Louisiana has owned and operated Community Coffee Company. In 1919, Henry Norman "Cap" Saurage discovered the secret of making this great-tasting coffee in his country store in Dixie, Louisiana, near Baton Rouge. He named his coffee "Community" in honor of his community of friends.

In 1924, he closed the store and converted his backyard barn into a coffee mill, using coffee beans purchased from a local roaster. In 1941, Cap's son H. Norman Saurage Jr. purchased the company's first coffee roaster, having decided that Community should roast its own coffee to ensure quality at every step. A roasting plant was built in Baton Rouge in 1946.

Over the years, Community Coffee Company would take countless steps to ensure the quality of its product. In 1955, the company began importing green coffee beans directly from coffee plantations in Brazil. In 1970, a new plant was built on the Mississippi River in Port Allen, Louisiana. In 1980, Community introduced the nation's first vacuum-sealed coffee package.

The first CC's Community Coffee House opened on the corner of Jefferson and Magazine Street in New Orleans in 1995. Dozens more opened during the 10 years that followed.

It's been more than 90 years since Cap Saurage founded Community Coffee Company, but their mission has never changed – to share their passion for great coffee with their customers.

And it shows in their delicious coffees! I was delighted with the Louisiana Holiday Blends Gift Set. It contains 4 12-oz. packages of coffee: Holiday Jazz®, Bread Pudding, Breakfast Blend, and Cinnamon Roll.

And it makes a great gift for those coffee lovers on your list! It comes packaged in a nice black box with a clear top so you can see the tempting coffees inside. No doubt this would put a smile on anyone's face!
Each of the coffees in this gift set was delicious in its own way. Bread Pudding was slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon and raisins, just as the name implies. It was smooth and savory and very tasty. This would be great with dessert!

Cinnamon Roll is the one I was most looking forward to trying. I found out a few years ago just how great cinnamon and coffee go together! And this coffee did not disappoint. Not too heavy on the cinnamon... more like dunking a fresh cinnamon roll in your cup of coffee. Delicious!

Holiday Jazz was my second favorite. It's kind of spicy, in a good way. I guess that's the "jazz" part. :) Kind of hard to describe...just full of flavor and very robust, without being bitter or too strong. They describe it as having a "tropical floral aroma". It's definitely exotic! A good coffee for holiday company, or just to enjoy on a cold winter night.

But my favorite was Breakfast Blend. As much as I love flavored coffee, for an everyday morning I prefer "regular" coffee. Community Coffee's Breakfast Blend is the smoothest I've ever tried. Perfect pot of coffee every time!

All in all I am delighted with the Louisiana Holiday Blends Gift Set. In fact I'm thinking of getting a couple of these for my boss and for a coffee-loving friend. At only $29.95, it makes a very special, gracious, and much-appreciated gift.

Community Coffee has more great gift sets on their website, everything from corporate gifts to holiday tumblers. Check out their offerings. I'm sure you'll find something perfect for a special person on your gift list!

Deck your halls...with Glitterize! {giveaway}

Don't you just love the holiday season? No matter what religion, faith, or sect you belong to (or not) there's just something about the holidays that brings joy to the heart.

One thing that gives me great joy is... getting gifts!

I kid, I kid. :)

No, what I meant to say is...decorating! I love breaking out the tree and ornaments and candles and decorations and dishes and glasses and the whole shebang. (now there's an interesting word= "shebang" - I'll have to look that up and see how it came to be used)

But I'll do that later. Right now I've got another marvelous giveaway for you! Woo-hoo!!

Take a look at this bee-yoo-tee-ful Swarovski aurora crystal-embellished ornament from Glitterize.com -
The Beadelle® AURORA Snowflake Ornament is beautifully crafted and enhanced with both crystal and crystal Aurora Borealis stones to add sparkle to your home this holiday season.  The AURORA holiday ornament features a Beadelle® tag to ensure authenticity, and comes with a blue satin ribbon.  It is packaged in a classic window gift box, which makes it the perfect gift this holiday season.
Dimensions:
2.9"H x 2.8”L
Interchangeable ‘Holiday Red’ Ribbon Included!
Isn't it pretty? Okay, "pretty" is lame when used to describe something this beautiful. How about breathtaking?

Yeah, that's more like it! :)

But photos don't do it justice. I received one of these stunners and I tried taking some photos, but you just don't get the brilliance and sparkle like you do in "real life".
In this photo you can only barely see that the Swarovski Aurora Borealis crystals are multi-colored. My camera just isn't good enough to capture details. Let's try again...
That's a little better. You can clearly see that the whole ornament is encrusted with crystals. And not just on one side. Nosireebob, both sides are identical. This would be simply stunning hanging on one of those rotating ornament displays!
I tried a different angle and you can see the Aurora Borealis crystals a little better. And they're on a silver base snowflake ornament - the dark color you see is reflections of my dark paneling on the shiny base from the angle.
Totally out of focus... but look at the glitter and shine!!
Looks even better on a green background, like your tree!
You can't tell from this photo, but see that little silver tag up near the ribbon? It says "Beadelle 2010". This is a collector's item, folks!

I am thrilled with my ornament and I know one of you lucky readers will be too, because Glitterize.com is giving one of you an ornament just like I received, only yours will come with two interchangeable ribbons, one red and one blue. Woo-hoo!! Deck your halls (or your tree) in glamourous splendour this year!

If you aren't lucky enough to win, you can still purchase the Beadelle Swarovski Aurora Borealis snowflake ornament at Glitterize.com. It's only $29.99 and that's a bargain for such a beautiful keepsake that will be enjoyed for years and years!

New product from Himalayan Salt Shop - salt inhaler! {giveaway}

By now you have heard of the wonderful Himalayan Salt Shop and their fabulous products! The Salt Lamp is the most unique and gorgeous - and beneficial - item I've seen in years!

Ernest Gaglione at Himalayan Salt Shop consistently comes up with great new products. Now there's a new one that I am excited about! It's called a salt inhaler and I've got one to give away to a lucky Shady Lady reader! Details in a moment...

But first let me tell you about the Salt Inhaler available at Himalayan Salt Shop.
What is salt air inhalation therapy? Known as "halotherapy" (halo = salt), salt air inhalation therapy is an easy-to-use drug-free method that eases symptoms of respiratory discomforts. It is also called "speleotherapy" (speleos = cave), as the salty atmosphere of deep salt caves has been used for centuries to benefit the respiratory system. Today's salt inhalers were designed to recreate a similar micro climate - providing salt cave therapy without actually having to venture deep into salt caves.

How does it work? Himalayan salt crystals are positioned between the filters inside the refillable inhaler device. As you inhale through the mouthpiece, the moisture of the passing air absorbs microscopic salt particles which permeate through your respiratory system. The humidity in the air is sufficient to enrich the air with minute salt particles when the air passes the salt crystals. Hence a micro-climate of curative salt caves has been created.

Who can use salt air inhalers? Anyone can safely use salt air inhalers and enjoy the benefits from salt air inhalation therapy. Young children may also use salt air inhalers provided that they understand the concept of breathing in through the mouth and exhaling through the nose.

Warnings:
For use by one person only. DO NOT share between family members!
Do not use inhaler if chipped, cracked, or broken in any area.
Contains small parts - keep away from children!
Do not eat salt crystals!

This product has not been evaluated by the FDA and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or condition. If under medical supervision or pregnant, consult your physician before using this product.

Although that all sounds rather serious, it's just plain ol' common sense! The salt inhaler is safe enough for anyone to use as long as the proper precautions are taken.

I received a salt inhaler to try for myself. Setting it up couldn't be easier. The device is empty when you receive it and you just pour about 1/3 of the supplied Himalayan salt crystals into it. There's a silicone plug on the bottom which you simply remove to fill and replace when done. That's it. The salt air inhaler is now ready to use!

For optimal results, they recommend inhaling through the mouth and exhaling through the nose. Simply place the mouthpiece between your lips and draw air gently through your mouth, exhaling through your nose. Do not exhale back through the device.

They caution that you might experience some coughing or sneezing when the inhaling process begins, but I didn't experience this at all. In fact I could hardly tell it was doing anything, except that I got a very faint salty taste in my mouth when inhaling. So it's not like your sucking salt into your mouth, lungs, and nose! It's almost imperceptible, and designed to be that way. They recommend using the salt inhaler for 15-25 minutes per day, but this can be done in 5 minute sessions several times per day. You can use it all year round for best results.

As it happens, I am right this minute suffering from an upper respiratory ailment, so the timing on the salt inhaler review was perfect. Although I've only been using it for a couple of days now, I believe that I can sense a difference already. It may be too soon to be sure, but I'm going to continue to use the salt inhaler. What do I have to lose? :) And if it works at all, it's worth the time and effort.

So I wish I could give you a better review of this product, but I will need more time using it to be able to say definitively that it works...or not. In the meantime, Himalayan Salt Shop is offering a free salt inhaler to a lucky Shady Lady reader for you to try yourself or give as a thoughtful gift to a respiratory ailment sufferer you know.

The Salt Inhaler regularly sells for $34.99, but Himalayan Salt Shop is running a special and you can get it now for only $29.99! Salt crystal refills are also available at $9.95 for a 7.75 oz. box that will last a year (depending on use).

The salt inhaler is Dr. Oz recommended! That's good enough for me!
