Immunet - for online social community protection

How many people do you interact with socially online every day? A few? A lot?

For most of us, the answer is probably a lot.

Did you know there is a new security product available that helps protect not just your computer, but potentially your entire network of online contacts?

Immunet Protect is available in a free version and a paid version. The free version is definitely something you might want to look into, but the paid version (Immunet Protect Plus) allows extra functions such as scheduling scans and is a bargain at $19.95 per year.

The concept of Immunet Protect is simple: Instead of installing and running a malware program locally on your computer, and having to get regular and timely updates to ensure your computer protection, Immunet is "cloud-based", which simply means it runs on the Internet itself, not locally from your personal computer.

What does this mean to you? It means faster protection, for one thing. Faster updates, for another. And if the members of your social circle also have Immunet installed on their computers, if one of your circle is attacked by malware or a virus, the rest are instantly protected in real time.

I don't know about you, but this really gives me better peace of mind. So many "new" folks are coming online every day, even grandparents who have never used a computer before now know how to send and receive emails, photos, etc. But being "new" to the online world, they are just not experienced enough to know that certain websites or links or emails are highly suspect, and before you know it their computers have been infected. And those infections get spread to others in their network without their knowledge.

Immunet helps guard against this by being constantly vigilant. When malware is detected on one computer in your network of online acquaintances, every other computer in that network is put on, shall we say, "high alert". Instant protection in real time.

Malware and virus authors are forever coming up with new ways to abuse and destroy the very things that most of us enjoy and take for granted. I've never understood why they do this and I guess I never will. But they are definitely up to no good, and the only way to protect yourself is by installing personal computer protection software.

Or by staying off the Internet completely.

I'm not ready to drop the Internet completely because some malicious folks out there have nothing better to do with their time than cause me trouble. So I protect my computer with both anti-virus software and anti-malware software.

The good thing about Immunet is that it works seamlessly alongside whatever anti-virus software you now have installed. There's a list of compatible software on their website. So you don't have to uninstall anything, or put your entire safety in the hands of Immunet...at least until you feel confident that Immunet is meeting your needs.

Since Immunet Protect comes as a free download, you have no reason not to at least give it a try. It takes very little time to download and install. And the footprint on your computer is minimal, since it really runs online through your Internet connection. Get the trial download here.

You can also win some prizes by trying Immunet! From now through February 28, 2011, during installation of Immunet Protect Free, there is a prompt to Share via Facebook. Anyone who wants to enter the contest should select this option and add their name at the beginning of the pre-populated text in the dialog window. All participants' names will be entered automatically into the contest to win Immunet Protect Plus, a $19.95 value, for themselves and up to 50 members of their personal online community, plus a $100 cash award. The winner will be selected by a random drawing on March 2, 2011.

And it's FREE! What do you have to lose?

Immunet Protect Plus provides everything that Immunet Protect Free provides, plus a host of advanced antivirus capabilities, including enhanced virus removal, the ability to schedule virus scans, offline scanning that protects PCs even when they're disconnected from the Internet, and more.

Scout leaders, teachers, parents, sports teams, classmates, committee members, families, co-workers, friends, and more, all can be part of your Immunet Protect network simply by installing the free version of Immunet. Then everyone with Immunet installed is protected in real time. That can be critical in protecting your computer against the multitude of new virus, trojan, worm, and malware invasions popping up daily.
{Disclosure: I received a free download of Immunet Protect Plus in order to facilitate my review. No monetary consideration was involved.}
